Computer Imaging

The ability to see potential results prior to rhinoplasty surgery can be very useful to both patient and doctor. At his facial plastic surgery center in Springfield, Missouri, Dr. LaFerriere uses computer imaging to make this possible. By taking a series of digital photos, he can show you a simulation of what he feels your surgical outcome could potentially be. Dr. LaFerriere reminds patients this is only a computer and the digital image is only as good as the information put into it, but he feels it is helpful to see the "game plan" he has determined after close evaluation of your nose. A computer imaging session also helps Dr. LaFerriere reach a better understanding of his patients’ goals.

Refining Facial Contour - Rhinoplasty, Otoplasty (Ear Surgery) and Chin Augmentation in Missouri

Many consider the defining characteristics of beauty to be symmetry, balance, and proportion. As such, a poorly defined chin or even a nose that is slightly too large can significantly detract from an otherwise attractive face. As a facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Keith LaFerriere strives to improve facial harmony with procedures such as rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), otoplasty (ear surgery), and chin augmentation.

If you are interested in enhancement of the chin, ears, or nose, Dr. LaFerriere can demonstrate how procedures such as otoplasty and rhinoplasty can greatly improve your appearance. Please contact our Missouri facial cosmetic surgery center to schedule your personal consultation with Dr. LaFerriere and explore the page below to view before and after photographs of actual patients:

Rhinoplasty (Surgery of the Nose)

As the central and defining characteristic of the face, the nose has a dramatic impact on the way we look. Even the slightest alteration in the size and shape of the nose can greatly enhance appearance. With rhinoplasty, Dr. LaFerriere strives to create a nose that is natural and balanced to fit your face. The rhinoplasty procedure is tailored to meet your needs and performed under the strictest safety standards at our private Missouri facility.

Understanding Rhinoplasty Surgery

There are several approaches to reshaping the nose during rhinoplasty surgery. Dr. LaFerriere makes the majority of his incisions inside the nose, where they are invisible. In certain cases, the incision will be made in the skin separating the nostrils. Following the first incision, the skin is lifted and nasal cartilage and bone are manipulated to create a well-defined, proportionate shape. Dr. LaFerriere then redrapes the skin over the new frame and the incisions are closed. To aid in the healing process, a nose splint is applied to maintain the new shape. Additional soft materials may be put inside the nose to support the new structure and protect the air passages.

Rhinoplasty patients are put under general anesthesia or deep sedation to keep them comfortable. Dr. LaFerriere uses board certified anesthesiologists to administer anesthesia in his private accredited surgical suite in Missouri. Your safety is his top priority.

What to Expect After Rhinoplasty Surgery

Following rhinoplasty surgery, it is important to protect and stabilize the new nose structure. To this end, Dr. LaFerriere will place the nose splint on the outside of your nose immediately after surgery and may use absorbable sutures to close your incisions. No packing is used in the nose.

One week after your rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. LaFerriere will see you in his Missouri office to remove your splints. It is important that you follow Dr. LaFerriere’s directions, especially instructions to keep your head elevated and refrain from blowing your nose following surgery.

Revision Rhinoplasty

Dr. LaFerriere is often called upon to reshape noses that have been previously operated on. Although revision rhinoplasty is a more difficult procedure, his training and experience in both Facial Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology give him the expertise to give his patients a more desirable rhinoplasty outcome.

If you are interested in nose reshaping or revision rhinoplasty, contact our office in Springfield, Missouri today. Our staff can tell you more about the surgical process and give you all the information you need to get started.

Chin Augmentation

Chin augmentation involves transforming a poorly defined or receding chin with a chin implant. Dr. LaFerriere can restore balance to your facial features with chin implants of various shapes and sizes. In fact, many patients will benefit from both a chin implant and rhinoplasty. Because a receding chin tends to accentuate a large nose, the procedures go hand in hand, and the implant often makes the nose fit even better with the face. Together, they provide dramatic improvement in facial contour.

Chin implants are placed through small incisions hidden beneath the chin, and the scar is barely noticeable. If you would like to learn more about chin augmentation surgery with or without rhinoplasty, contact Missouri facial plastic surgeon Keith LaFerriere.

Otoplasty

Otoplasty involves the reshaping, repositioning, and restructuring of the ears. This procedure helps both children and adults who have cup shaped ears that overly protrude form the side of the head, as well as other ear abnormalities.

When Should Otoplasty be Performed?

Otoplasty can make a dramatic difference in the lives of both adults and children. Children benefit immensely from otoplasty when parents elect to have the procedure performed just before they reach school age. Otoplasty can be performed at our Missouri office when a child is as young as five or six-years-of-age. At that time, a child’s ears have developed to approximately their full size.

Ear Abnormalities

While development of the ears may stop in the womb, not all ear deformities are evident at birth. Ear abnormalities may develop as we age, or can be caused by trauma to the ears, ear piercing, or other external injuries. There are also a variety of more simplistic ear problems that can be helped with otoplasty, including overly large ears, overly cupped ears, and protruding ears. Whatever your cosmetic issue with your ears, Missouri facial plastic surgeon Keith LaFerriere, M.D., can help.

The Surgery

Otoplasty surgery begins with an incision in the natural fold just behind the ear. The necessary amounts of cartilage and skin are then removed to achieve the desired effect. In some cases, it is not necessary to remove cartilage at all and stitches alone hold the cartilage in place permanently. The otoplasty options for you or your child will be thoroughly discussed during a consultation at our office in Missouri. Dr. Keith LaFerriere will help you make an informed decision about you or your child's treatment.
